Spirit of the River was an amusement barge, with shops on the lower level. It now resides Hamm's Marina among other permanently docked barges and other river boats.

Funk's Grove

Red-bellied Woodpecker.
I took a walk through the woods at Funk's Grove this morning and saw more wildflowers than I have ever seen at one location. It was amazing. I tried to find morels, but only spotted a Devil's Urn and a Scarlet Cup. Soon I hope! It wasn't a big bird day. There were several Northern Flickers, Cardinals, Chickadees, Nuthatches, and this wonderful Red-bellied Woodpecker that posed briefly on his way up the tree.

Tug boat pushing a huge barge past Copperas Landing on the Illinois River. Saturday was cooler and windy, but the light was great and we had a wonderful time spotting birds.

Swamp Sparrow, identified with the help from some members of the IBET-ILBird list.
The marks that identify it are the reddish hues in the wings, the warm brownish tones along the flanks, and the white malar between two whisker marks which also set off the white chin.

Double-crested Cormorants. This is another photo taken by Edward with my camera. He is better at focusing than I am, but I'm learning.
